Privacy and cookies

What we measure, and what we do not.

Nothing is stored on your device until you accept. Analytics load with every storage permission denied, and only begin storing if you choose Accept. Decline and no cookie is written at all. You can change your mind at any time using the button at the bottom of this page.

What we use analytics for

This site is a sixty second film followed by a short page. We want to know whether people watch it, which parts hold attention, and where they stop. That tells us what to fix. It is a product question, not a marketing one.

Specifically, we record which of the six chapters were reached, roughly how long each was held, how far down the page a visit got, and which contact link was chosen. We do not record what you type, and we do not attempt to identify you.

What we never do

The cookies themselves

These are set by Google Analytics 4 only after you accept.

NamePurposeExpires
_gaDistinguishes one browser from another so repeat visits are not counted twice.2 years
_ga_<id>Keeps session state for the property.2 years

We also store your consent choice itself in your browser's local storage under lev.consent.v1, so we do not ask again on every page. That is stored locally, never sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it. If you decline, this is the only thing kept, and it exists purely to remember that you said no.

Who processes it

Analytics data is processed by Google. IP addresses are anonymized before processing. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard request logs including IP address, user agent and requested path for delivery, security and abuse prevention. That is infrastructure logging rather than analytics, and it happens whether or not you accept.

When you contact us

There are two routes. The contact links open your own email client with a subject and template filled in, and nothing passes through this site. The contact form does submit through this site: your name, email, organisation if you give one, and your message are sent to our own endpoint and relayed to us by email. We store no copy of it in a database. It reaches our inbox and stays there.

We use what you send only to reply and to continue the conversation. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not pass it to anyone else. The form also records a single anonymous event noting that a message was sent and which of the three subjects you chose, so we can see which routes people use. That event contains none of your details, and it is only recorded if you accepted analytics.

The live shore view

The Moss Landing shore view is a protected, read-only preview and is not available every hour. Detection boxes drawn on it are model-generated candidates rather than confirmed whales. No remote camera control is offered through this site, and the camera is not used to identify people.

Your choices and rights

You can accept or decline at any time, and change that later. Declining does not reduce anything about the site: the film, the content and the contact routes are identical either way.

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing. Because analytics here is not tied to an identity, in practice that usually concerns email correspondence. Write to us and we will act on it.
